STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. -- A car fire caused a large emergency response in Oakwood Saturday morning leading to the closure of a major intersection on Hylan Boulevard.
The large FDNY and NYPD response at the intersection of Hylan Boulevard and Chesterton Avenue caused a swath of Hylan Boulevard to be shut down Saturday morning. Vehicles were being detoured to local streets.
At this time, officials reopened traffic in both directions on Hylan Boulevard with one lane still closed.
A vintage burgundy colored car could be seen surrounded by water in the middle lane of Hylan Boulevard just before the traffic light at the intersection of Chesterton Avenue. The car’s hood was popped open, its windows were smashed, and it appeared to have a charred engine.
