Mariners All-Star infielder poached by Mets in free agency
The Seattle Mariners had three free-agent infielders hit the open market this winter. After signing Josh Naylor to a five-year extension, only Jorge Polanco and Eugenio Suarez remained on the open market.
With the Mariners looking to add another infielder, whether it's a third or second baseman, Polanco and Suarez were two possible options for Seattle to re-sign this offseason.
But, according to Jeff Passan of ESPN , the Mariners are losing one of those players to the New York Mets . While Suarez might be the better slugger, the Mets are choosing Polanco to join their roster on a $40 million deal.
