Shillong, Dec 13: Tura Lok Sabha Member of Parliament (MP), Saleng Sangma raised the issue of non-payment of salaries to ASHA and Anganwadi workers in Meghalaya.
Speaking during the Winter Session of the Parliament, Sangma said while the government chose to deal with the infant mortality rate and the maternal mortality rate, the frontline workers are neglected.
“The frontline workers who are working on the ground tirelessly to check and survey the patients with TB, HIV and other diseases, but there is no social security for these kinds of workers,” the MP said.
He urged the government to implement the Minimum Wages Act of 1948 to ensure social security benefits to the ASHA and Anganwadi workers.
