Abraham Quintanilla Jr., the father of the late Tejano legend Selena Quintanilla, died Dec. 13, according to an Instagram post by his son, musician and songwriter A.B. Quintanilla III. The Corpus Christi resident was 86.

“It’s with a heavy heart to let you guys know that my Dad passed away today…” the Instagram post read. It did not contain more information about Abraham Quintanilla’s cause of death.

Q-Productions, the entertainment company that Abraham Quintanilla co-founded, did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Abraham Quintanilla was born Feb. 22, 1939, in Corpus Christi and began his music career with the group the Dinos in the 1950s.
