OAKLAND — A 23-year-old man died after an unknown shooter opened fire on him in East Oakland on Friday night, authorities said.
Police have not yet released the man’s name, pending notification of his family.
The shooting happened about 11:50 p.m. Friday in the 2700 block of E.C. Reems Ct., a primarily residential area. The man was outside when the unknown shooter struck him, police said.
He died of his injuries near his home, police said.
Police are still investigating a motive in the shooting and have not yet released any information on the suspect.
The killing is the 62nd homicide investigated by Oakland police this year. Last year at this time police had investigated 78 homicides in the city.
