Brian Spagnola can still picture it. The longtime president of the Amsterdam Mohawks has witnessed many ballplayers come and go during his 23 years at the helm, but his experience with Tanner Allen during the summer of 2018 will always be unique.

Like it was yesterday, Spagnola can recall walking into the kitchen of his Amsterdam home at 1:30 a.m. to see then 19-year-old Allen “holding court” for crowds of sometimes 10 or more. Instead of recapping the game from the night before, Allen would simply be talking about hunting.
