The San Diego Padres made the playoffs again last season, but there may be quite a bit of work for the organization to do in order to return to postseason baseball in 2026. Cease is a 7-year Major League veteran, and he spent the last two seasons with the Padres . He had a brilliant season in 2024 when he was 14-11 with San Diego and started a National League best 33 games. Cease was on the mound for 189.1 inning and he struct out 224 batters while compiling a 3.47 earned run average. He was 4th in National League Cy Young voting.
