PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — Police are currently responding to an active shooter situation at Brown University.
Mayor Brett Smiley said that two people were dead and eight were in critical condition.
Brown’s Emergency Information alerts that said that a report of shots fired on Governor Street were unfounded but to remain sheltered.
An earlier text alerted of an active shooter and urging them to lock doors and stay hidden.
The incident originated near Thayer Street.
A statement issued by the university said that multiple victims had been transported to the hospital but that their conditions could not be released.
The statement also said that multiple exams had been occurring at the the building where the initial shooting took place.
