The South Dakota football team saw its 2025 season come to an end with a 52-22 loss to Montana in the FCS quarterfinals on Saturday, Dec. 13.
The Grizzlies (12-1) got the scoring going with a 1-yard touchdown pass early in the first quarter. Montana would continue to push the score, rattling off 17 more unanswered points to take a 24-0 lead late in the first half.
South Dakota got on the board just before the end of the second quarter when on fourth-and-1, L.J. Phillips Jr. ran 23 yards to the house to make it a 24-7 game at the break.
Montana kept firing early in the third quarter when, after forcing a South Dakota punt, Drew Deck took the punt 93 yards to the house to put the Grizzlies up, 31-7. The Grizzlies added another touchdown before USD posted a 69-yard touchdown catch from Aid
