Two people are dead and eight people were seriously hurt in a shooting at Brown University on Saturday night, according to Providence Mayor Betty Smiley.
The eight people injured were at local hospitals and were in stable condition, Smiley said in a press conference just after 6:30 p.m. on Dec. 13.
The shooter was not in custody as of 6:38 p.m. on Saturday, Smiley said.
They were identified as a male dressed in black who initially exited on to Hope Street from the Barus & Holley Engineering building, where the shooting began at 4:05 p.m., officials said.
A shelter in place warning was still in effect for the area of Brown University and the surrounding area, including residents and businesses in the nearby area. All updates will come through the City of Providence social media chan
