KALAMAZOO, Mich. — The Family Health Center (FHC) in Kalamazoo released a statement on Friday morning after finding out that there was a malfunction in its sterilization equipment used to clean dental tools.
According to the FHC, the dental team uses a seven-step sterilization process for each dental tool. Among these steps is sterilization in an autoclave, which is an extremely hot medical device designed to eliminate any microorganisms that weren't removed earlier in the cleaning process.
FHC said it recently discovered that the autoclave may have malfunctioned on Nov. 5, 2025. A broad group of patients who might have received care during a time period recommended by the CDC were notified.
