DEAR READER: I think partner would normally bid a major at the two-level, targeting the major-suit game but also because your double will contain support for the majors, but not necessarily the unbid minor. Thus, when partner bids as he does here, I imagine he has four hearts but much longer clubs, probably 6-4. He is not showing invitational values; he should have done something stronger over two diamonds with that.
