NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) - A church in East Nashville that has been around for more than 100 years is undergoing renovations, and the Centennial Bells, that have rung out for decades at the former Tulip Street United Methodist Church will also be restored.

On Saturday morning, the bells were removed from their tower located at the corner of 6th Street and Russell Street with a crane, so the restoration process can begin.

The bells, which were originally cast for the 1897 Tennessee Centennial Exposition, hold a rare historical significance for the Volunteer State.
