HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - With the holiday season in full swing, families in need gathered to receive donated gifts from the community.
On Saturday, Helping Hands Hawaii hosted the Adopt a Family Holiday Gift Distribution event for participating households.
Last week, donors dropped bags full of gifts at the Helping Hands Hawaii Community Clearinghouse.
Organizers said more than 500 families signed up in early August and have faced their own challenges and hardships throughout the year.
“This year started with me practically losing everything almost,” said a Nuuanu resident. “I had my kids taken away because I was in addiction, and just ending this year, I have my kids home and my daughter moving home soon, so I’m super grateful.
