Every dog deserves devotion and security, not heartbreak and neglect. Yet some pets learn in the hardest way that the people they trust are capable of walking away.

Raymond was one of them. He never imagined the humans he adored would drive him to a hiking trail in Michigan, step back into their vehicle, and disappear without him.

When the car rolled out of sight, Raymond remained rooted to the spot, overwhelmed and bewildered. He believed with his whole heart that they cared for him, and he believed they would return.
