Mahad, Dec 14: Tragedy struck the Raigad district-level inter-school competition organised by the Mahad Konkan Education Society when 13-year-old student Nidhi Sameer Mhatre from Shahabaz village, Alibag, suddenly collapsed and died on Saturday evening. The incident cast a pall of grief over the otherwise joyful and festive atmosphere of the event.

Students from various schools across Raigad had arrived in Mahad to participate in sports and cultural competitions. Nidhi was in the school grounds with her fellow participants when she suddenly felt dizzy and collapsed. Teachers and peers rushed to her aid, and she was immediately taken to a private hospital in Mahad. However, doctors declared her dead upon examination.
