Bristol County Sheriff Paul Heroux is renewing his call to close the Ash Street Jail, estimating that the facility could be shut down for about $10 million. The 137-year-old, more than 200,000-square-foot building is owned by the state and requires approximately $11 million in essential repairs. Heroux said the proposed $10 million would instead be used to retrofit three housing units at the Dartmouth House of Correction in North Dartmouth with cell locks and toilets.
