Ihave a confession to make. Those who know me would be surprised to discover that I shed tears more often than they would expect. A recent night provided a good example.

On PBS Masterpiece, two motion picture legends, Michael Caine and (the late) Glenda Jackson starred in “The Great Escaper,” a film based on the true story of Bernard Jordan, a British World War II veteran, who in 2014 “escaped” from his care home to attend the 70th anniversary of the D-Day landing in Normandy. Among many themes, the film depicts the deep desire of the visiting veterans to commemorate the thousands who died there, their continued struggles with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), and the health challenges facing these very old soldiers.
