Twelve people, including one person suspected to be a gunman , were killed in a mass shooting at Sydney’s Bondi Beach on Sunday evening during a Hanukkah event , BBC quoted the police as saying.
At least 29 others, including two police officers, were also injured and taken to hospitals. A second gunman is said to be in a critical condition, the channel reported.
This was the deadliest shooting in Australia since the 1996 Port Arthur attack, when a lone gunman opened fire at a historic site in Tasmania, killing 35 persons.
The New South Wales Police said dozens of shots were fired near Bondi Beach and the adjacent park area shortly after 6.45pm local time.
