DAVANAGERE, BENGALURU: Senior Congress leader and former minister Shamanur Shivashankarappa passed away at a private hospital in Bengaluru on Sunday. He was 94 years old and had been suffering from age-related illnesses. He was the oldest serving MLA in the country and had been a prominent figure in Karnataka politics for over five decades.
Shamanur Shivashankarappa was born on June 16, 1931, in Davanagere district to Shamanur Kallappa and Shamanur Savitramma. He is survived by his wife Parvathamma, four daughters — Dr Manjula Shivashankar, Sudha Patil, Dr Shailaja Bhattacharya and Meena Dr Sharan Patil, and three sons — S S Bakkesha, S S Ganesh and S S Mallikarjun.
