MATTOON, Ill. (WAND) -- One person is dead and at least one person was taken to the hospital after a seven-vehicle crash on Interstate 57 Saturday morning.
Illinois State Police said the pile-up happened just before 10 a.m. in the southbound lane near milepost 193. That is near the Mattoon exit.
Police said the crash involved five commercial vehicles, such as semi-trucks, and two passenger vehicles.
At least one person was taken to the hospital, and one person was pronounced dead at the scene, ISP said.
The road was closed for several hours. Police said the road reopened around 5:30 p.m., but Illinois Department of Transportation cameras showed the road was still backed up as late as 8:30 p.m.
