Delayed justice a burden on people: CJI Justice Surya Kant

Chief Justice of India Justice Surya Kant on Sunday expressed concern over delayed justice, stating that pendency of cases and the high cost of litigation have become a burden on the common people.

Addressing a symposium organised by the High Court Bar Association in Cuttack on “Ensuring justice for the common man: Strategies for reducing litigation costs and delays,” as the chief guest, CJI Surya Kant shared his views on the challenges facing the justice delivery system. He said two major factors create barriers between the common people and justice - the money spent on litigation and the time consumed in the judicial process.

Justice Surya Kant noted that delayed justice adversely affects the financial condition and dignity of common people. He emphasised the need to evolve effective s
