FOREST, Va. (WDBJ) - A driver was rescued after crashing over a bridge Saturday, December 13, according to Forest Fire Department.
Firefighters responded just after 11 p.m. to reports of a vehicle accident off the bridge on Bateman Bridge Road. A pickup truck was found over the bridge with an injured driver inside, according to firefighters.
Firefighters say the railroad was advised to hold any train traffic.
Patient care was provided after crews navigated down the embankment, according to firefighters. Once the driver was stabilized and treated for neck and back pain, a stokes basket was used to lift the driver to the bridge platform, according to firefighters. The driver was transferred to a waiting medic unit.
The cause of the crash has not been released.
