At least 10 people were killed and 20 others injured after a school bus carrying students plunged into an 80-metre-deep ravine in northern Colombia on Sunday.

The bus was returning from a school trip on the Caribbean coast to Medellín when it veered off the road in a rural area near Segovia.

The victims were mainly students from Antioqueño High School, aged 16 to 18. Local hospitals were mobilized to treat the injured.

The governor of Antioquia, Andrés Julián, described the incident as a tragic day for the region and confirmed that the cause of the accident is under investigation.
