A Sarnia seventh grader was one of the top finishers in a recent international coding contest.
Rosedale public’s Naina Patel, 12, said she spent about two months coming up with a video game design for a Fiero Code Light Quest competition.

Her game, Solar Energy Rescue, tasks users with guiding a jet pack-equipped robot sprite through a maze of shadows, with rebuilding a rocket ship, and clearing away rocks to bring power back to the fictional planet Fiero.
Patel placed second in the 12 and under category and won a Bluetooth speaker.
“It felt amazing,” said Patel, who also codes games and animations for fun using Scratch, and said she’ll probably become a computer scientist someday.
“I love coding,” she said.
