A Jamaica resident made the purchase of a lifetime, winning a $1,000,000 second prize in New York’s Powerball game, lottery officials announced .
Clemencio Waal of Jamaica matched the first five numbers drawn on August 23 and opted to receive a one-time lump sum payment totaling $612,240, after required withholdings, according to officials.
The winning numbers were: 11, 14, 34, 47, 51 and Powerball 18.
The winning ticket was purchased at Stop & Shop, located at 134-40 Springfield Blvd. in Springfield Gardens. Springfield Gardens is located in Queens.
New York’s Powerball game generated $327,836,044 in total sales during fiscal year 2024-2025. School districts across the five boroughs received $1,427,185,199 in Lottery Aid to Education funds during the same period.
