PROVIDENCE, R.I. —

A growing memorial on the Brown University campus is honoring the two students killed in a mass shooting Saturday evening in Providence, Rhode Island.

The shooting, which injured nine others, happened just after 4 p.m. in a building that houses the School of Engineering and the physics department.

"The resilience that these survivors showed and shared with me is frankly, pretty overwhelming," Providence Mayor Brett Smiley said.

Little information has been released about the person taken into custody. City leaders said the investigation is ongoing.

"We know there's some information circulating, but we will not share any information that might compromise our investigation or future charges," Smiley said.
