Speaking Monday at a White House faith luncheon, President Donald Trump heaped praise on the tax bill he signed into law earlier this month after successfully pressuring enough Republican holdouts to change their votes.
Trump took time out of a set of remarks ostensibly about the importance of faith to discuss his biggest legislative achievement to date, a package that has been shown to disproportionately benefit the wealthy .
He also made a couple jokes at his supporters’ expense.
Trump began by slamming the Republicans who dared oppose the massive piece of legislation on behalf of their constituents. He bragged about making a series of late-night, early-morning calls to the holdouts, only to be reassured that each representative would fall in line.
