It’s been more than two years since Santa Barbara County began digging up the old mobile home park RV pads and pipes at Cachuma Lake for a $14 million renovation, and campers are growing restless, but there is a campfire at the end of the construction tunnel.

“The project has been delayed because just after we got started we went through two very wet winters. So it’s been over two years because it was just bad timing,” said County Business Manager Sherman Hansen.

There’s more to starting construction after a rain than waiting for the soil to dry on this project.

According to the project’s categorical exclusion checklist with the Bureau of Reclamation, the county is required to put the project on hold during and after rainfall of half an inch or more in any 24-hour period prior to planne
