House Speaker Mike Johnson is calling for transparency regarding the Department of Justice's handling of Jeffrey Epstein's case. This comes as former President Donald Trump accuses Democrats of perpetuating a "hoax" surrounding the Epstein allegations.

Johnson, a Republican from Louisiana, has urged Attorney General Pam Bondi to clarify her recent comments about the Epstein investigation. Trump has echoed this sentiment, insisting that any credible information related to the case should be made public. This demand follows the Justice Department's announcement that it would not release additional information about Epstein, who was charged with sex trafficking before his 2019 death.

Trump remarked, "I don't understand what the interest or what the fascination is. I really don't," as he faced criticism over his administration's approach to the Epstein case. The Justice Department stated it found no evidence of an Epstein client list or any indication that he blackmailed influential figures. In a memo, officials declared that "no further disclosure" of information would be appropriate or warranted.

Despite this, Trump stated, "Whatever she thinks is credible…she should release," referring to Bondi's comments. At a recent press conference focused on fentanyl, Bondi declined to answer questions about Epstein, stating, "Nothing about Epstein. I'm not going to talk about Epstein."

The controversy has drawn criticism from both Democrats and some Republicans. Congressman Tim Burchett, a Republican, expressed his desire for the files to be released, saying, "I'd just like to see the files turned over."

In response to the ongoing debate, Speaker Johnson told conservative commentator Benny Johnson that Bondi needs to clarify her statements. He emphasized, "We should put everything out there and let the people decide."

Democrats have also weighed in, with Senator Chris Van Hollen of Maryland stating, "We need transparency and accountability, and we need it now." The calls for clarity and openness in the Epstein case continue to grow as the political discourse surrounding it intensifies.
