An investigation into alleged shoplifting by a South Brunswick police officer has led to more charges, as detectives have accused him of stealing over $75,000 from a local police union, authorities announced Wednesday.
Abraham “Jason” Gassman, 53, was charged with second and third-degree official misconduct, second and third-degree theft by deception, third-degree hindering apprehension, fourth-degree falsifying records, and shoplifting, a disorderly persons offense, according to a statement from the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office.
Earlier this year, Gassman shoplifted bedding items valued at about $100 from an Ocean Township department store and then left the scene in his police vehicle, the office said.
