A local activist group is voicing its concerns about plans for an immigrant detention center at Camp Blanding in Clay County on Saturday.

The Jacksonville Immigrant Rights Alliance met there at 3 p.m. to protest the construction of an immigrant detention center.

Other groups and elected officials are expected to be there, including State Representative Angie Nixon.

Though plans for Camp Blanding are on hold, people still don’t want the facility built.

“I mean it’s an absolute disaster; it’s a human cruelty. It’s not what our country stands for, it’s not what our people stand for, and we won’t stand for it and anybody who’s part of contributing to that project, whether it be paving the road to it, or building the center is complicit,” Jodi Midri, a protester, said.
