Texas Governor Greg Abbott announced a special session for the state legislature on Monday to address emergency procedures and early warning systems following the deadly flooding earlier this month. "We must ensure better preparation in the future," Abbott stated in a social media post.

The session is set to begin at noon local time, as indicated in a press release from his office. This comes after more than 130 people lost their lives due to historic flash flooding that impacted central Texas over the July Fourth weekend.

As of last week, three individuals were reported missing in Kerr County, three in Travis County, and one in Burnet County. Abbott emphasized that the special session would focus on enhancing preparedness and recovery efforts for potential future flooding events.

The agenda for Monday's session is expected to cover several key topics. These include discussions on flood warning systems, emergency communications related to flooding, relief funding, and strategies for natural disaster preparation and recovery. Abbott's initiative aims to improve the state's response to such emergencies and ensure the safety of its residents.
