The detention hearing for a Vineland man who allegedly stabbed another man to death during a fight last week was delayed Monday after prosecutors requested a one-day postponement.

Jayron Thomas, 27, is scheduled to appear in Cumberland County Superior Court at 9 a.m. Tuesday. He's charged with murder, unlawful possession of a weapon, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose and tampering with evidence in the death of Ronald Shields, 67, also of Vineland.

Officers responded to the 700 block of South East Avenue at 10:30 a.m. July 14 and found Shields suffering from stab wounds. He was airlifted to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center, City Campus, and was pronounced dead, the Cumberland County Prosecutor's Office said.
