The City of Santa Maria recently received a $14,731 rebate from SoCal Gas for purchasing energy-efficient pool covers for the Paul Nelson Aquatic Center, an addition that prevents heat loss and drastically reduces energy usage.

Pools without covers lose significant heat, especially overnight, forcing the system to work harder and use more energy to maintain water temperatures, according to the Santa Maria Chamber.

The addition of the pool cover is projected to yield more than $48,000 in annual energy savings.

"This project is a great example of how smart, energy-efficient investments can deliver real savings for our local governments and communities,” said Chamber President & CEO Michael Boyer.
