BALTIMORE, MD – In a dramatic finish at Pimlico Race Course, Journalism rallied from behind on Saturday to secure victory in the 150th Preakness Stakes. The favorite, ridden by Umberto Rispoli and trained by Michael McCarthy, edged out longshot Gosger by a half-length in the second leg of the Triple Crown.
Kentucky Derby winner Sovereignty did not compete in the Preakness, opting instead to prepare for the Belmont Stakes on June 7th.
Despite a bump on the far turn, Journalism, also the Kentucky Derby runner-up, showed impressive resilience down the stretch. After experiencing his first Preakness mount, Rispoli expressed his elation after the win, stating it eased the disappointment of the Derby.
McCarthy celebrated his second Preakness victory, admitting he thought Journalism might fin
