The inequity between two North Ward high schools less than a mile apart was discussed at Thursday’s monthly Newark Board of Education meeting.
TAPinto Newark earlier in the week revealed a tale of two schools: Technology High School and Barringer High School.
“This data is kind of alarming,” said Board Vice President Allison James-Frison, who has called out the disparity in demographics and outcomes between other schools in the past.
Technology, which is predominantly Latino, chooses which students can attend the school. Only 5.7% of Technology High School students had disabilities, and 2.3% were English Language Learners, according to the NJ School Performance report released in April 2025.
