GATLINBURG, Tenn. (WATE) — A multi-car crash in downtown Gatlinburg left seven people injured Sunday afternoon.
The incident occurred at approximately 4:14 p.m. Sunday in the 700 block of Parkway between traffic lights 6 and 8, a city official said. Five vehicles were involved in the crash.
The Tennessee Highway Patrol said a minivan "accelerated unexpectedly", hitting a pedestrian in a crosswalk before colliding with several other vehicles. One of the vehicles hit a road sign, which then fell, hurting a second pedestrian on the side walk. THP added that a total of seven people were injured, five who were inside two different vehicles and two pedestrians.
Gatlinburg Police Department and THP are investigating. According to THP, "a medical emergency" may have contributed to the crash.
