SEATTLE — A red Dodge Charger with a “new driver” sticker on the back isn’t what most drivers expect to see in their rearview mirror during a traffic stop — but it’s one of more than 50 vehicles operated by the Washington State Patrol as part of a long-running crackdown on aggressive drivers.
The vehicle is part of WSP’s Aggressive Driving Apprehension Team ( ADAT ), a program that’s been in place since 1998. The team uses unmarked vehicles of various makes and models — including pickups, SUVs, and muscle cars — to blend in with traffic and identify drivers who speed, tailgate, or weave through lanes.
