BELTON, Texas (KWTX) - The Bell County Public Health District (BCPH) on June 3 announced its first confirmed case of measles in an unvaccinated adult.

County health officials are investigating the case for any potential community exposures, including identifying the status of recent international or domestic travel.

Measles is a highly contagious viral infection that can cause life-threatening illness or death, especially in babies and children, health officials said. It is easily spread through the air or close contact.

Measles is a vaccine preventable disease with a 97 percent effectiveness rate when fully vaccinated.
