Karine Jean-Pierre has left the Democratic Party after serving as former president Joe Biden's press secretary, she's revealing in her forthcoming book.
The longtime Democratic operative served two years as the top spokesperson for the White House, but she's urging voters to look past the two-party system in her new book, "Independent: A Look Inside a Broken White House, Outside the Party Lines," reported the Associated Press.
“Until January 20, I was responsible for speaking on behalf of the President of the United States,” stated Jean-Pierre, the first Black woman and openly gay person to serve as White House press secretary.
“At noon on that day, I became a private citizen who, like all Americans and many of our allies around the world, had to contend with what was to come next for our country," she added in her statement. "I determined that the danger we face as a country requires freeing ourselves of boxes. We need to be willing to exercise the ability to think creatively and plan strategically.”
The 50-year-old Jean-Pierre was criticized for giving evasive answers about Biden's physical condition, and her publisher Legacy Lit promised her book would cover "the three weeks that led to Biden’s abandoning his bid for a second term and the betrayal by the Democratic Party that led to his decision.”
“She presents clear arguments and provocative evidence as an insider about the importance of dismantling the torrent of disinformation and misinformation that has been rampant in recent elections and provides passionate insight for moving forward,” the publisher said in the announcement.
Jean-Pierre's announcement found a harsh reception on social media.
"It's sad that Biden stuck with Karine Jean-Pierre for all those years despite the fact she was not that great at her job, only for her to turn around and write a book about why she left the Democratic Party and is now an independent," wrote journalist Aaron Rupar.
"Interesting that Biden press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre seems to have left the Democratic Party. Oh well. Anyways," said software engineer Lakshya Jain.
"Karine Jean-Pierre also trying to sell books now I see," posted Bluesky user Bongopuntos.
"Karine Jean-Pierre really saw Jake Tapper sell 50k books and thought 'hey I could sell a twelfth of that,'" chimed in Bluesky user The okayest poster there is.
"CBO: 'House bill will leave 10.9 million Americans uninsured.' Fox News: 'Let's talk about Biden('s former press secretary),'" noted MSNBC columnist James Downie
"My main take on the Karine Jean-Pierre book is that it seems pretty obvious that she and her publisher decided that the title of her book would be 'Independent' (in reference to her decision to leave the Democrats to become an Independent) while she was still serving as Joe Biden's Press Secretary," added Bluesky user Chad Chricton.
