HOUSTON (KIAH) — A jaguar in the Houston Zoo is on the mend after receiving surgery to heal a fracture in one of his legs.
Tesoro, the 11-year-old male jaguar fractured his front right leg and needed immediate surgery. The operation was done with veterinary surgeons at Gulf Coast Veterinary Specialists at the zoo.
The surgery was successful, zoo officials said, and Tesoro will be behind the scenes at the zoo to spend the next several months recovering.
Tesoro’s injury was discovered when his animal care team noticed him limping and radiographs indicated he had fractured his elbow. It also showed he has arthritis and elbow dysplasia, conditions that are common in older cats like Tesoro. • (Houston Zoo) • (Houston Zoo) • (Houston Zoo)
