PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) – Alaska Airlines is breaking into the European travel market by announcing its first destination across the pond.

Starting in May 2026, the carrier will launch nonstop flights from their hub in Seattle to Rome, a destination the airline said is their most requested among rewards members.

“As an Italian American whose parents emigrated from Italy, this is a particularly meaningful addition to our network,” Alaska Airlines CEO Ben Minicucci said. “Rome has been at the top of the list ever since we announced our new global gateway out of Seattle. Our guests have been asking for an easy way to get to Italy for years, and we’re thrilled to provide it to people in the Northwest and beyond.”

Tickets for flights to Italy will go on sale starting this fall.
