EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WEVV) — One person was taken to the hospital after a fire in Evansville on Wednesday.

Firefighters were sent to a fire at a home on South Frederick Street around 4 p.m. after someone living there called 911.

As crews arrived, they were notified that a mattress was on fire.

Crews were able to stretch a hose line to the area of the bedroom, and extinguish the mattress fire.

Authorities said the victim had second degree burns to his hand and wrist, and was taken to the hospital.

EFD says the cause of the fire was determined to be accidental.
