NY AND NATIONWIDE — THE FOOD AND DRUG ADMINISTRATION NEEDS TO REMOVE OUTDATED RESTRICTIONS on obtaining the abortion medication mifepristone, says a petition that NY Attorney General Letitia James and the attorneys general of California, Massachusetts, and New Jersey filed on Thursday, June 5.

The coalition argues in their petition that mifepristone has proven overwhelmingly safe and effective in the 25 years since it was first approved by the FDA, and that the agency’s current Risk Evaluation and Mitigation Strategy (REMS) program’s burdensome restrictions on access to this medication do not significantly improve patient safety.
