CONNECTICUT (WTNH) — Some Connecticut shops are helping celebrate National Doughnut Day this Friday with the perfect thing: something sweet.

The annual day dates back to 1938, when The Salvation Army started it as a way to honor "Donut Lassies" who would serve donuts to soldiers on the front lines of World War I.

Now, we continue to celebrate the tasty treat with specials and promotions every June 6.
