A federal judge denied the federal government’s request Wednesday to move a Milford teenager who was arrested by immigration agents last week from Burlington to Rhode Island. The decision came on the eve of a hearing over whether the teen should be released while challenging efforts to deport him.
A lawyer for 18-year-old Marcelo Gomes da Silva , a Milford High School junior, opposed the out-of-state transfer, arguing it would interfere with his scheduled appearance Thursday at a bond hearing before an immigration judge in Chelmsford. She also said it would impact pre-approved plans for him to meet with his immigration attorney Wednesday evening to plan for that hearing.
