EVADALE, Texas (KTRE) - A Jasper County deputy stopped a vehicle for a defective equipment violation, and ended up arresting the driver and passenger.

The deputy pulled over the vehicle on June 4 at 8:20 p.m. on FM 1131 in Evadale, according to Sheriff Chuck Havard. The driver, identified as Joshua Stimits, 43, agreed to let the deputy search the vehicle. The deputy found what he knew to be methamphetamine during the search. Both Stimits and his passenger, Chassity McGurk, 42, denied knowing anything about the drugs in the vehicle.

The deputy placed them both under arrest for possession of a controlled substance. While he was arresting Stimits, he began actively resisting the deputy, Havard said. During the struggle, a passerby stopped to help the deputy get Stimits into custody.
