MACON, Ga. — Early voting is almost halfway done and only 28,627 voters have cast their ballots in the Public Service Commission primary election, according to data from the Georgia Secretary of State's Office. That's just 0.4% turnout out of the state's 7.4 million active voters.

In Central Georgia, only 2,811 voters have already cast their ballots in the race as of Wednesday.

There are two public service commission districts that residents across the state can vote on. Depending on which ballot you take — either Democratic or Republican — you'll see different candidates on the ballot.

The Public Service Commission plays a large role in regulating Georgia Power , setting power rates and other utilities. Because of that, these candidates have an impact on utility rates statewide.
