Tom Cruise has officially set a Guinness World Record for his daring stunt in "Mission: Impossible - The Final Reckoning." The record was awarded for the most burning parachute jumps by an individual. This remarkable feat involved Cruise jumping from a helicopter while deploying a parachute that was set ablaze.
According to Guinness World Records, the parachute was pre-soaked in fuel and ignited just before Cruise made his descent. He had to jump from a height of at least 7,500 feet. The flames could only burn for about three seconds, requiring Cruise to cut the flaming parachute away and deploy a backup chute. In a remarkable display of skill, he performed this stunt not once or twice, but 16 times to capture the perfect shot.
The record was officially awarded to Cruise on June 4. Craig Glenday, Editor-in-Chief of Guinness World Records, praised Cruise's dedication, stating, "Tom doesn't just play action heroes – he is an action hero! A large part of his success can be chalked up to his absolute focus on authenticity and pushing the boundaries of what a leading man can do. It's an honour to be able to recognize his utter fearlessness with this new Guinness World Records title."
Cruise's latest achievement adds to his legacy of incredible stunts in the "Mission: Impossible" franchise. He has previously hung from the side of a plane, ridden a motorcycle off a cliff, and climbed the world's tallest building. With over 30 years as a licensed pilot and a certified skydiver, Cruise is known for performing his own stunts. In "Top Gun: Maverick," he also executed a series of impressive aerial maneuvers.
Wade Eastwood, a stunt coordinator for "Mission: Impossible - Fallout," emphasized the importance of authenticity in action films, saying, "The audience can tell when something's been cheated, so it's important to be doing it all for real."
This is not Cruise's first Guinness World Record. He also holds a title for having the most consecutive $100-million-grossing movies, with 11 films qualifying, starting from 2012's "Jack Reacher" to his latest, "Mission: Impossible - The Final Reckoning."
